ThriftyTurnip ("ThriftyTurnip", "we", "us", or "our") operates the website at thriftyturnip.com and the ThriftyTurnip mobile application (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
ThriftyTurnip helps households in the United States find local grocery deals and build weekly shopping lists tailored to their preferences. We currently offer the Service to users in the United States.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information — your name, email address, and password when you create an account. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile image from Google.
- Household and member profiles — your ZIP code, household size, budget, and the members of your household. For each member you may add a first name, whether they are an adult, teen, or child, and their food preferences.
- Dietary preferences and allergen information — dietary patterns (for example, vegetarian or halal) and allergens you want us to avoid. This information can be health-related; we use it only to personalize meal and shopping recommendations, and you can view, change, or delete it at any time in your preferences.
- Preferences and activity — preferred stores, meals you rate, saved deals, shopping lists, and items you add manually.
- Payment information — if you subscribe to a paid plan, our payment processor (Stripe) collects your payment card details directly. We do not receive or store your full card number; we retain only limited billing details such as your subscription status and the last four digits of your card.
- Communications — messages you send us for support and your email notification preferences.
Information we collect automatically
- Device and usage data — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, links clicked, and interactions with the Service.
- Approximate location — we may infer your general region (such as your state) from your IP address to show relevant local deals. We do not collect precise GPS location.
- Cookies and similar technologies — see "Cookies and Tracking Technologies" below.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including generating your personalized shopping lists and meal ideas.
- Match you with relevant grocery deals near you and within your budget and preferences.
- Process subscriptions and payments and manage your account.
- Communicate with you about your account, updates, and (with your consent where required) marketing.
- Measure and improve the Service, understand how it is used, and develop new features.
- Show and measure advertising, including our own promotions and third-party ads (see "Advertising").
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security issues, and technical problems.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your settings, measure traffic and performance, and support advertising. We group these into cookies that are strictly necessary to run the Service and optional cookies used for analytics and advertising.
When you first visit, we show a consent banner. Optional analytics and advertising technologies (such as Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel) load only after you accept. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the ThriftyTurnip consent cookie in your browser, and you can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work as intended.
4. Advertising
The Service is supported in part by advertising. Ad placements may show sponsored promotions from our retail partners or, where none is available, ads served by Google AdSense. Sponsored partner content is labeled as "Sponsored".
Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to the Service and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to the Service and/or other sites on the internet.
You can control the ads you see:
- Opt out of personalized advertising by Google by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- Opt out of personalized advertising from many participating vendors at aboutads.info and youradchoices.com.
- Learn how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Where you have not granted consent to advertising cookies, we request non-personalized ads. If we begin offering the Service in regions that require prior consent for advertising (such as the EU/UK), we will obtain consent as required before serving personalized ads there.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information as follows:
- Service providers. We share information with vendors who process it on our behalf to run the Service, including Supabase (database, authentication, and storage), Vercel (website hosting), Stripe (payments), Google (sign-in, analytics, and advertising), and Meta (advertising and measurement).
- Advertising and measurement partners. As described in "Advertising", and to measure the performance of marketing campaigns.
- Legal and safety. When required by law, to respond to legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ThriftyTurnip, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Policy.
- With your direction. When you ask us to share information or make it public.
Some advertising and analytics activities may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under certain U.S. state laws. See "Your Privacy Choices and Rights" for how to opt out.
6. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward as needed to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it. You can request deletion of your account at any time (see below).
7. Data Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Privacy Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your personal information.
- Opt out of targeted advertising and the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
You can update most information directly in your account preferences. To opt out of personalized advertising, use the controls in "Advertising" above and decline optional cookies in our consent banner. To exercise any other right, contact us at privacy@thriftyturnip.com. We will verify your request and respond as required by applicable law. You may authorize an agent to act on your behalf.
California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA), you have the rights described above, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not knowingly sell the personal information of individuals under 16.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority in your state) to create an account. We do not knowingly allow children to create accounts or provide information to us directly, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.
An adult account holder may create profiles for members of their household, including children, in order to tailor recommendations. These profiles are created and controlled by the adult, who is responsible for the information they add and should limit it to what is needed (for example, a first name, age band, and food preferences). You can edit or remove a member profile at any time in your preferences. If you believe a child has provided us personal information directly, contact us at privacy@thriftyturnip.com and we will delete it.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may link to third-party websites and stores that we do not control. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice as appropriate. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
12. Contact Us
